The SABF around the world

In this occasion we would like to introduce our group of delegates. They are SABF representatives throughout the five continents that works along with us, to manage to spread the event around the world. They are an essential component in the organization since they are the ones who transmit the spirit and concept of the Forum reaching personally where we cannot. We would like to thank all our delegates for the excellent work they have done during these months which made it possible to achieve such great results this year!

Agustín Taberner

Agustín Taberner is a SABF delegate at the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza in Argentina. On his trip to Rosario he took a photo in the National Monument to the flag.

She is Mary Laura Delgado Montes, our delegate at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín in Perú. In this pic, she is in her city: Arequipa. Amazing sight!

William Castaño

This pic was taken by William Castaño, delegate at Universidad EAFIT in Colombia. This is the second aerial tramway that was inaugurated in Medellin showing an uncommon perspective of the city.

Gonzalo Basso

Gonzalo Basso is a SABF Delegate at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He’s in the Alcalá Gate in Madrid!

The application period has ended

We are very glad to announce that more than 1200 students have registered at our site showing the increasing interest in the South American Business Forum.

We would like to thank all those young students who expressed their interest and enthusiasm! We consider very important to emphasize the effort and time invested by the applicants when writing their essays!

Every applicant will be informed of the jury´s decision via e-mail during the first days of June, 2008.

Last weekend to apply to the SABF

Have you started to write your essay? The application deadline is this Sunday, May 11th at 24.00 hs. (Time of Argentina)… But you still have got time, take advantage of the weekend! We do encourage you to participate in this amazing opportunity. You won´t have the opportunity to share ideas hand in hand with such outstanding people and students from around the world every day in such a wonderful city as Buenos Aires!!

Don´t forget you must choose one of the three sub-topics that come from the main topic “Empowering Agents of Change” which engage issues like institutions, entrepreneurship and resources. In the The Forum section of our web-page you will find a description of each sub-topic. To avoid any kind of inconvenience, we recommend not to wait until the last moment to submit your essay. Remember you may change all the information submitted (even the essay) until the application deadline.

The essay is the main piece of the evaluation process made by the jury in order to select the 100 participants. Remember that the essay extension goes from 1200 to 1600 words and all kind of figures, statistics or graphics that allow deeper analysis may be included. CAEII Rosario 2008

Los queremos invitar al sexto Congreso Argentino de Estudiantes de Ingeniería Industrial, que se va a realizar del 14 al 17 de Agosto de este año en la ciudad de Rosario. Bajo el lema “Gestión, Innovación, Competitividad y Responsabilidad Social: Claves para el Desarrollo Sustentable” el CAEII 2008 será un congreso con excelencia académica, con la participación de destacados profesionales y líderes nacionales e internacionales. El lugar donde se realizarán las conferencias y demás actividades del congreso será el Exclusivo Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones Patio de la Madera.

El congreso contará con diversas charlas alrededor de cuatro ejes temáticos, los cuales conforman las claves para el Desarrollo Sustentable. Habrá charlas en simultáneo, de las cuales se podrá elegir a cuál asistir, y ponencias magistrales. Los asistentes también tendrán visitas técnicas para conocer industrias del Gran Rosario, talleres interactivos, una Feria de Empresas y un concurso de Ponencias Estudiantiles, del cual puede participar cualquier estudiante con al menos 60% de las materias de la carrera aprobadas.

Lo que diferencia al CAEII de otros congresos es su amplitud: los disertantes son de renombre nacional e internacional, e incluyen ingenieros de las distintas ramas, licenciados en economía, abogados, especialistas en marketing, etc. Hay docentes, profesionales, consultores, directores de proyectos, escritores de best-sellers, CEOs de grandes empresas y emprendedores que levantaron PyMEs.

Business Today International Conference

We would like to share with you an international business conference organized by students from Princeton University.

The Business Today International Conference provides a unique and valuable opportunity for college students to meet, interact, and learn from high level executives and political leaders. Held in the heart of New York City, it brings together 150 students from across the country and around the world to discuss and share perspectives on relevant business issues, and benefit from the knowledge and experience of current world leaders.

The Conference is organized into a format of both keynote speeches and intimate executive seminars, and each student is guaranteed the opportunity to speak personally with the executives in attendance. The Conference is an all-expenses paid event for the selected students, less a small administrative fee. Attendance is highly selective, with over 1000 applicants for 150 spots.

SABF - Latest News

We are pleased to celebrate with you more than 2 months old of our Blog. We believe that we have many things to improve, that is why we would like you to tell us what issues/topics would be of your interest to discuss in the Blog. This really matter to us because we are looking to generate a dialogue with all the people interested in the SABF and its goals.

Moreover, we want to remind you that there are only 38 days left to the end of the SABF´s application period.The Forum that gathers 100 students from all around the world waits for your contribution! It will take place at Buenos Aires on August 8th, 9th and 10th.

In order to apply, you must write a brief essay giving your opinion on the main topic: “Empowering Agents of Change”, making focus on one of the following sub-topics: entrepreneurship, institutions or resources. Model WTO 2008

Since we know you are interested in different events around the world, this time we would like to invite you to participate in the Model WTO 2008. It will take place from May 4th to 9th 2008 at University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

The Model WTO is an international event with 60 students simulating regular WTO minister conferences. During an intense five-day program in St. Gallen and Geneva, Switzerland, selected international students are given the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of both gains and problems of global trade.

It’s a very interesting idea because groups of participants are attributed a given country. They must defend its interests in several negotiation rounds. The Model WTO revolves around a central topic; students debate on related issues in specific subcommittees. Participants then get the opportunity to present and discuss the result of their negotiations with WTO experts in Geneva.

To apply, you must write an short essay (1-3 pages MAX) on one of this year’s committees’ topics. Application deadline is April 1st, 2008. For further information about the event we invite you to visit their website: www.modelwto.org.

International Essay Competition 2008

What can you do to shape the City of your Dreams?

In this opportunity we want to invite you to participate in a event organised by the World Bank, the Cities Alliance and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is after your practical ideas. On its 5th edition it will try to find solutions to shape our actual cities into the cities of our dreams.

Essays can be submitted online in English, French, Spanish, Arabic or Portuguese. The essay must answer to the three questions raised: What are the biggest opportunities and challenges for people living in your city?; What needs to be done to transform your city into the city of your dreams?; What could be your role, working together with your peers, in shaping the city of your dreams?. Creativity and the use of thoughtful and concrete proposals will be considered.

You can submit your essay until March 23, 2008 entering to the website www.essaycompetition.org. The competition is open for students and non-students alike, aged 18-25. Students enrolled in Ph.D. courses are not eligible to participate.

Awards will be given on June during the ABCDE Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. The winner will receive 5000 USD and the other finalists 100U SD. The World Bank will cover travel and accommodation expenses for the finalists.

38th St. Gallen Symposium

We invite you all to participate in the 38 th St. Gallen Symposium, which is held from the 15-17 May 2008 at the University of St. Gallen. Every year, the International Students’ Committee (ISC) offers university students throughout the world the unique opportunity to take part in the St. Gallen Symposium. Students enter into a challenging exchange of ideas with today’s global leaders about the pressing economic and societal questions of our time.

The closing date is 2 February 2008. Up to this date, talented students from all over the world are invited to hand in their contribution, dealing with the main topic of this year “Global Capitalism - Local Values”. The authors of the 200 best entries will be invited to Switzerland to add their own perspective to the St Gallen Symposium - in the company of 600 entrepreneurs, top managers, politicians and scientists from more than 60 nations. The travel expenses, costs for nutrition and accommodation will be covered by the organization.

Registration period for 2008 SABF has started

The registration period for the fourth edition of the SABF has started, that is why we invite all students to participate in this unique experience in South America.

The event will take place on August 8th, 9th and 10th in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is aimed at all undergraduate students, having completed their secondary education, or students who graduated in 2007 or 2008. The topic of the 2008 SABF, “Empowering Agents of Change”, pretends to analyze the existing change agents in the world and particularly those which have become blurred in South America, with the objective of finding out the causes of their lack of involvement and finding solutions to achieve their goals.

During the three-day conference, students will be able to interact with peers from around the world, as well as with prominent leaders of the academic, business and political spheres, debating about several current issues related to our region. It is, furthermore, a unique experience in which the cultural exchange that is generated adds to the personal and professional development of the participants.
